HS Announcements

  • High School Wind Ensemble 2016-2017

    Meets: IL in Quarter 1 and 3: According to the rehearsal calendar on IL Days 1, 2, 4, and 5

    Block 4 in Quarter 2 and 4:  Full Band will meet every other day for 80 minutes and for Day 5 IL

    Materials for Class:   Instrument (in working order)

                                        All appropriate accessories (reeds, mouthpieces, mutes, etc.)

                                        Music (in concert folder), Foundations for Superior Performance warm-up book

                                        Pencil

                                       A Positive Attitude

    Rules: Follow these simple rules to create a positive and creative learning environment

    1.      Be on Time: to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is UNACCEPTABLE

    2.      Be respectful of the director and other student musicians.  We are all at different levels of ability and achievement, but we are all here to learn and make music.

    3.      Only handle your instrument.  You must have permission to handle any instruments or special equipment which you do not own.

    4.      No gum or food for anyone (even percussion).  Gum and food are damaging to instruments.

    5.      Be prepared: both with materials and a positive attitude.

     

    Grading:                      40% - Performances

                                        35% - Attendance/Participation*

                                        15%  - Written or Other  Assignments*

                                        10% - Playing Tests*

                                        *Extra credit is available upon request

    Daily Attendance:     As a performance oriented class, your attendance at all rehearsals is of the utmost importance. All Absences (excused, unexcused, or sports related) must be made up with IL or after school practice.

    Concert Attendance: Attendance at performances is required. Except for dire illness or a death in the family, absence from a performance is not permitted or excused.

    *If you are not dressed properly, or forget your instrument or music, you may not be allowed to perform and may be counted as absent at the discretion of the director.  Absences or concert attendance issues may affect participation in extracurricular events, field trips, or honors ensembles at the discretion of the director.

    Scheduled Performances:     The following performances are scheduled for the 2016/2017 school year.  Attendance at these performances is mandatory.

                TBD:    Winter Preview, TBD-during school (at middle school assembly during HS 4th block)

                Thursday December 8th : Winter Concert, 6:30pm-Report 15 minutes prior to performance

                Tuesday May 2nd  :      Spring Concert/Fine Arts Night, 6:30pm-Report 15 minutes prior to performance

                Friday May 26th :        Graduation, 6:30pm report 5:30pm (date subject to change)

    Tentative Performances:      The dates or times for these performances have not been set, but occur during the school day during regular class time and are required.

    Monday October 31st :           Elementary Fall Parade, during school – required for students not in chorus and members of THE Knights BAND

               Elementary Christmas Caroling:  the week before winter break

               Elementary Pops Concert: perform movie, musicals, and pop music for 3rd and 4th graders (Spring)-TBD

    Performance Attire: 

    Morning or Daytime concerts: Nice, Dressy clothes (no ripped jeans, flip flops, etc.)

    Elementary Performances: nice jeans/pants and black music T-shirt

    Evening Concerts: Formal Attire- black and/or white (small ensembles- concert black)

                                                                Dress, or skirt/pants and blouse for ladies

                                                                Dress pants/slacks and buttoned shirt for gentlemen

                            *No Jeans, Shorts, T-shirts, Flip Flops, or Sneakers  (for Winter and Spring Concerts)

    Music Department Fundraisers:      These fundraisers benefit student trip funds as well as the music department as a whole.  Fundraisers to be announced (not yet approved by administration)

                            Pretzel Sandwich 1:    September

                            Pie/Candle Sale 1:       October – Pies delivered for Thanksgiving

                            Pie Sale 2:       November – Pies delivered for Christmas

                            Pretzel Sandwich/Candle 2:    March

    Music Department Trip:      To Pittsburgh March 31st and April 1st

    Additional Opportunities:    These honor bands and ensembles may require an audition or recommendation

                            District Band Try-outs: Saturday, December 3rd  2016  @Dallastown

                            Gettysburg Community Symphony Band: Spring Semester @ Gettysburg College

                            Lower District 7 Band Festival: February 10th  and 11th  2017 @ Eastern York HS (Must Audition in December)

                            Susquehanna University Honors Band: Friday February 17th  through Sunday February 19th 2017

                            County Band: Friday February 24th and Saturday February 25th  2017 @ Biglerville HS

                            PA All State Lions Band – State Convention May 19th and 20th  2017 and Chicago summer 2017
