Career Commercials
First Step What OPTIONS are out there?
Research with a partner a SLEW of career opportunities that deal with engineering...We begin with brainstorming what we think ENGINEERING careers are....
Start a word document called ENGINEERING with your brainstormed listWe make the connections that engineering applies to all areas of lifeUsing cut and pasting we organize the careers into similar or related fields
Click this DOCUMENT to find some sites to use for information BE sure to keep a GOOD record of your NOTES with documentation on where you acquired your knowledge (bibliography!!!)With your partner, each of you must identify at least 3 different specific jobs of interest- SCAN the sites you selected for the major information listed below in step 2
We identify how to discern reliable information and site bias
- Continue adding to your note page documenting the sites you retrieve information from and the data you are collecting
- cite 3 different resources to guarantee information accuracy
SECOND STEPPut together a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS to showcase your newly acquired knowledge byCreating a POWER POINT PRESENTATION to cover the following information each on an individual slide...INTRODUCTION...YOUR career and YOU1. Beginning Salary- may also cover expected increases with years of experience2. Educational needs- minimum needs, continuing in the field, areas for advancement3. Job description on what to expect for the job duties-identifying differing levels of skills, locations and experiencesThis is what you will use as an outline to create your ScriptWe begin by identifying what we already know and have experienced with POWER POINT in the past
- students share and demonstrate basic skills with the class
- teacher supplements any missing skills of interest after each student has exhausted their knowledge
Each student creates their own power point presentation focusing on their team selected career--> you are working in partners not to have exactly the same information, but in helping each other as needed for needed skills and finding appropriate information
REMEMBER when presenting your power point, your slides are triggers for your memory, you do NOT want to just read everything on your slide- prior to your oral presentation to the class, make sure your title slide has your career and name clearly marked
- print off your presentation in HANDOUT format to hand in prior to your oral presentation
Third StepTHIRD you will write up a script covering the requirements of your career choice and documenting what each partner will be "saying"Each person needs their own script
Script should identify which setting you will choose for your background : Front of classroom, hallway ramp, or entry vestibule
Make sure you have practiced enough to be loud enough but well spoken and utilizing proper EXPRESSIONSFOURTHYour CULMINATING project, you will create your COMMERCIAL by incorporating a1.Visual aid2.Completed Script including FACTUAL info on-a. Educational requirementsb. Salaryc. Job duties/expectations3. Need to have a HOOK- what will make people want to do YOUR occupation4. Must be between 1 ½ -3 ½ min long
5. One team will tape your group and then you will tape them
6. Each group gets 2 takes (ACTION to start, CUT to end)
7. Each group will have an opportunity to be critiqued and viewed in class
8. Students with prior parental approval will have their creations posted for public viewing (as technological systems allow)

If your script is as perfect as perfect can be, Enjoy this final SHOW....
FINALLY...."VOTE" for your favorite career by submitting a printed RESUME for that occupation- use what you have learned by the presentations to create what you THINK would be needed on a resume to earn that job.Be creative, but realistically based!STANDARDSSTANDARDS FOR TECHNOLOGY LITERACY:- students will develop an understanding of the relationships among technologies and the connections between technology and other fields of study
