    Design a House-

    • Become familiar with designing and furnishing a house from the web sites provided
    • Go over mathematical calculations (functions) using spread sheets
      • area and how it is calculated
      • perimeter and how it is calculated
      • YOU need to be able to use both correctly for this project....know the difference between them!

    • Design and furnish a house no more than 2400 sq feet with a minimum of 6 rooms (Kitchen, Living/Dining, Bath, 2 Bedrooms and one room of your choice)
    • Plan the Layout of your design (graph paper) to show room placement, house flow and practicality for 21st century needs
    • Layout your design to maximize the limited resources available (cardboard) and to maximize support and construction (bordering/shared walls)
    • Construct your multi leveled home

We begin with identifying important vocabulary

We utilize Dictionary.com to find relevant information

We correlate our information and supplement with Diagrams using Drawing

We experience Drafting and Planning possibilities on the web

We go over the expectations for our project

    • Sketch out house layout on graph paper for where rooms will be located
    • Design, reasonably furnish and print room plans
    • Input data in Spread Sheet Data collection page
    • Perform Mathematical Functions with specific formulas
    • Construct house design to scale
    • Finish measurements and submit final project with data sheet

    Lesson 1- Introduction,
    • Open up a NEW Word Document
    • Create a Header with your full name, date and assignment name (House Design)
    • Save your document into your Applied Technology folder calling it HOUSE DESIGN
    • Copy down the Vocabulary- familiarize yourself with formatting as time permits
    • Follow directions for working off of Dictionary.com to Cut and Paste definitions
    Lesson 2-
    • Open up your House Design document
    • Follow along with class corrections for Vocabulary
    • Follow along with directions for Drawing Diagrams to support notes
    • Begin exploring Internet sites

    Lesson 3-
    • Go over Project Requirements
v the completeness and correctness of your Spread Sheet
v completeness of your 6 rooms-Bathroom, Kitchen, Living/Dinning room, 2 bed rooms, one room of choice
v Entire HOUSE is 2400 sq feet or less
v functionality of your home- Plan (graph paper) vs Reality (final project)
v stability and structural design of your supports
    • House Plan on Graph Paper, Focus on Room Planner, Printing Steps,
Lesson 4- Designing and Printing Rooms
    • discuss and analyze your house layout
      • identify that math is an integral part to having the space work the way you design
      • ensure modern day functionality and expectations
    • REVISED REVIEW for steps to complete work
      • identify your rooms LENGTH and WIDTH (depth)
      • CLICK "create a new plan"
        • FURNISH/design your ROOM
      • Check your room measurements one last time
        • record your measurements into your data sheet **ONLY NUMBERS- no symbols or words**
        • Go back to your created room and make sure the entire room is on your SCREEN
      • On the keyboard, us the PRINT SCREEN button (to the right of F12)
    • OPEN a NEW WORD DOCUMENT
      • Paste your picture onto your new document
      • Click on the picture so that the handles show up
      • Click FORMAT (top center right)
      • Click CROP (top right)
        • use the HASH MARKS to frame your room
      • unclick your picture to add text box
      • CLICK insert, Text box (select SIMPLE)
        • either make 2 text boxes, or put YOUR NAME and ROOM NAME in one text box
    • SAVE it as what ever room name you labeled it
      • make sure you saved it into the ROOM FOLDER in your tech folder, in your personal slice of our cyber world
    • TO GET THE RULER FOR WORD DOCUMENT IF NEEDED
      • click view
      • check the box for ruler
        • remember all rooms are MULTIPLIED by 4 since our scale is 1/4 inch= 1 foot

Lesson 5- Spread Sheet Notes, Input Data
    • print remaining rooms based on requirements
    • begin spread sheet
      • Create your Data Sheet  as shown
      • put YOUR information in for where there is red
      • wait for further directions
    • input data based on your room measurements
    • calculations MUST be solved by using mathematical function of spreadsheet
** Extra Credit- Calculate the cost of furnishing your home on your spread sheet and set up the formula to calculate the total**
    Lesson 6- Construct Home
    • cut out rooms following black wall lines EXCEPT to cut around dimension marker
      • keep all papers (even scraps) carefully after being cut out
    • layout rooms according to house plan (graph paper)
      • get approval and receive "foundation cardboard"
    • some overhang is acceptable
    • focus on minimizing waste and conserving resources
    • glue rooms down to cardboard
    • cut out house perimeter
    Lesson 7- Construct Home
    **FOR A MULTI LEVEL HOME**
      • follow all directions above for each floor
      • carefully lay the top floor over top of the floor below
        • mark where you think supports should be placed
      • carefully poke a hole through both copies with the big needle
      • using the scale for your house, cut lengths of straw to the correct size for the height of your floor for each support
      • cut lengths of pipe cleaner 1/4 inch longer than the straws for each support
      • thread the pipe cleaner through the bottom floor, through the straw and through the top floor
      • knot off/ twist /tie the pipe cleaner at both ends
        • continue for all supports- you may get some help from a neighbor if needed

Lesson 8- Final Write up, Measurements, and Print out to turn in work!

    • Measure the PERIMETER of the ENTRY level floor
      • DO NOT MAKE THIS HARDER than it is- you already have the measurements, you just need to add and adjust some
    • ENTER the perimeter onto your data collection sheet (where it says perimeter up top left)
    • On a NEW WORD DOCUMENT- Assignment Name HOUSE DESIGN in the HEADER
      • include what steps we worked on to complete the project- beginning to finish
      • identify skills you incorporated- how were you conscientious of resources
      • problems you overcame- How did your Plan/Design change as you progressed through the activity
      • suggestions for this project in the future
    • Do one final check for spelling, capitalization and all other areas teachers always see but you miss (have your neighbor check it)
    • Print your documents (data sheet and short answer document) ; staple them together with your graph paper plan and turn in these papers with your model (make sure your name is on that as well) to the FINISHED PROJECTS location

Finale- Complete 3D-architecture for your chosen clients and your desired location. Home must meet the needs of

your clients as well as be functional
